Are the arts facing an existential crisis in the UK?

Sir Simon Rattle, conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, on the imminent threat to orchestras and other arts organisations unless the government provides signficant financial support.

The state of UK Theatre is discussed by Royal Shakespeare Company Executive Director, Catherine Mallyon, Actors’ Touring Company Artistic Director Matthew Xia, and Indhu Rubasingham, Artistic Director of London's Kiln Theatre.

Today the National Gallery announced they will be the first major museum to reopen next week. John is joined by the Director of the National Gallery, Gabriele Finaldi and Jenny Waldman, Director of the Art Fund to explore the situation facing galleries and museums.

John is also joined by Guardian Chief Culture Writer Charlotte Higgins.
